Fibromyalgia Management Programme
FIBROMYALGIA MANAGEMENT PROGRAMME
A long time misunderstood and misdiagnosed condition.
Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) is a long-term condition known for causing the individual to experience generalised pain all over the body.
The exact cause of fibromyalgia is unknown, but it is thought to be related to the body’s processing of pain messages around the body, linked to the nervous system.
Anyone can develop fibromyalgia, although it affects around 7 times as many women as men and it typically develops between the ages of 30 and 50. It is not clear exactly how many people are affected by Fibromyalgia because it is very difficult to diagnose as there is no specific testing procedure, and symptoms are varied and unique to an individual. Some studies have suggested that as many as 1 in 20 people may be affected by Fibromyalgia.
Although there is no cure for Fibromyalgia, management techniques and practices are available to ease the symptoms of Fibromyalgia and reduce chronic pain. The aim of any Fibromyalgia intervention is to reduce pain and fatigue and will include a range of different therapies, exercises, and management techniques specific to the individuals unique presenting symptoms.
